Barbers Point Cogeneration Unit Addition – Oahu, HI
In 2008, a Generator and Turbine were added to the Barbers Point Cogeneration Facility on the island of Oahu, HI to increase its electrical generating capacity. The equipment supplier, Siemens Energy, Inc, selected Sheedy as the specialized hauling and heavy lift contractor for this project.
The generator was delivered by rail to a siding at the Port of National City, San Diego, CA. The turbine could only be delivered as far as Fontana, CA due to railway height and width restrictions, then hauled 125 miles to the Port using Sheedy's Dual Lane Trailer.
At the Port, the components were loaded onto Hydraulic platform trailers and then carefully brought up the MV Jean Anne's loading ramp and into the ship's cargo hold. Once the cargo was secured, the Jean Anne departed for Barbers Pont, Hawaii.
Sheedy personnel arrived in Hawaii to meet the Jean Anne and unload all of the equipment to the Barbers Point Pier. After a successful off-load, the Generator and Turbine were hauled approximately 1.5 miles to the project site, An 800 ton gantry was assembled and used to offload the Generator and Turbine from the hydraulic platform trailers onto their final positions.
