Shoring is an important structural support system used to prevent cave-ins during construction projects. It is designed to provide a temporary support structure for excavations, forming pits, or any other type of excavation that requires protection from falling debris and potential cave-ins. There are several types of shoring companies that provide different shoring systems.

Let’s take a look at the different types of shoring systems used in construction sites.

Types of Shoring Systems

The two most common types of shoring systems used in construction sites are soldier piles and lagging, as well as steel sheet siling. When deciding on the type of shoring that is required for your construction project, it will depend on the size, soil type, and depth of the excavation or pit being constructed.

1. Soldier Piles and Lagging System

This type of shoring system is ideal for shallow excavations, such as those found in residential construction projects. Soldier piles consist of vertical steel piles that are driven into the ground with horizontal lagging boards attached between them.

The boards of the lagging system hold back the soil while allowing access to the excavation site when construction is underway. This system can also be adjusted depending on the soil conditions and depth of the excavation by increasing or decreasing the number of soldier piles used.

2. Steel Sheet Piling System

This type of shoring system is used for deeper excavations because it provides more stability than lagging boards do. In the steel sheet piling system, steel sheets are driven into pre-drilled holes in the ground around the perimeter of an excavation site to form a wall around it. This wall keeps out water and prevents any potential collapse from occurring due to shifting soils or other external forces acting on it from outside sources.

As well as providing a greater degree of protection than lagging boards, steel sheet piling systems are also much quicker to install than soldier pile systems. This makes them ideal for large-scale construction jobs when time is tight.
